International Standards for Digital Archives:
3rd European Conference on EAD, EAC and METS
The 3rd European Conference for Digital Archives took place from
24 to 26 April 2007 in Berlin. The focus of the conference was EAD (Encoded Archival
Description), EAC (Encoded Archival Context) and METS (Metadata Encoding and Transmission
Standard). The conference not only provided information on standards. In our discussions
we also addressed hands-on experiences using EAD, EAC and METS.
The exchange of collections information and attendant metadata - the key prerequisite
in establishing a common Internet portal - requires the use of agreed-upon standards.
This observation is true of both digitised and 'born-digital' materials. In her
presentation Petra Rauschenbach will report on this recent international conference,
providing us with a sense of the substance, results and next steps to be taken.
