Rossella Caffo is Director of the Library of Modern and
Contemporary History in Rome and is entrusted by the "DG for the Technological
Innovation and Promotion" of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and
Activities to follow ministerial initiatives dealing with new technologies applied
to cultural heritage, such as the Italian Culture Portal, and to coordinate the European
projects MINERVA eC, MICHAEL/MICHAELplus.
She was the Director of the Information and Statistical Service of the General
Secretary of the Italian Ministry for Culture from October 2001 to December 2004
and before then was director of the University library in Cagliari. Since September 2001,
Rossella has been the Italian representative to the European National Representatives Group
on Digitisation in Culture and is charged with relationships to European Commission DG INFO -
Cultural Heritage Applications Unit by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities.
Rossella was responsible for the CREMISI project, which realised open distance learning training
courses in the field of multimedia and IT devoted to librarians, and provided libraries with multimedia
services and multimedia classrooms for training. Between 1994 and 1997 she was President of Italian Library
Association (AIB) and from 1997 to 2001 was a member of the EBLIDA Executive Committee as the representative
of the Italian Library Association.
